President Obama shook hands with a man in a horse-head mask while strolling down the streets of Denver on Tuesday. It was weird.

The unidentified man in a red shirt waited in the crowd like the rest of the prospective onlookers, and reached out his hand to give Obama a good shake. It’s clear from the photos the president kept his distance during the handshake.

Thankfully, the White House pool report treated the shake with the seriousness it deserved. “One onlooker wore a large horse head, but it’s unclear what message he hoped to convey,’’ the story read.

The horse-head mask has become something of a thing over the past few years among young jokesters. It made several appearances during the ‘Harlem Shake’ video fad of early 2013, and was memorably worn by a shirtless jogger in the background of a local weather report during Hurricane Sandy.
