Randy Price, a beloved fixture in Boston broadcast media, has signed off for good.

Price, the co-anchor of the EyeOpener morning news broadcast on WCVB Channel 5 for over a decade, joined his final broadcast remotely from South Carolina this morning. The anchor has been “staying put” in the Palmetto State after traveling there for vacation in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. He announced his retirement two weeks ago.

Price has anchored at all of the major local news stations in Boston during his near four-decade tenure in the city’s media market.

“For 38 years, New Englanders have trusted me and my colleagues to bring them the important news and information of the day,” Price said in his sign-off message. “I thank you for that trust and inviting me into your home.”

He also thanked his coworkers and the communities in causes important to him, including those in LGBT movement. He was the country’s first openly gay TV news anchor.
