Watch Natalie Jacobson’s message to Mike Lynch as he leaves the Channel 5 anchor desk
Lynch was a sportscaster for Channel 5 for more than 37 years.
Thursday marked Mike Lynch’s last day anchoring Channel 5’s sportscast after nearly 40 years. Natalie Jacobson, who shared the anchor desk with Lynch for 25 of those years, had a message for him as he enters “semi-retirement.”
“Lynchie, I’ve been president of your fan club since you arrived at Channel 5 so many years ago,” she said in a video WCVB posted on Facebook. “You’re the best, because you’re a fan first. You love the game, and you love the people who play it.”

Jacobson remembered a time when Lynch was supportive when she broke a story about New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
“You are the ultimate team player,” she said. “I will miss you when I watch Channel 5, and I’ll look forward to our continuing friendship.”
On his last day anchoring, Lynch took a minute to talk about his colleagues.
“People ask me all the time, ‘What was your favorite team you covered?’” he said. “Well, my favorite team for the past 37-and-a-half years is right here with Channel 5.”
He also thanked the audience during the partial goodbye.
“I thank all of you for inviting me into your homes every night at 6 and 11 o’clock,” he said. “You always made me feel like a family member.”
Lynch will now transition into a correspondent role at Channel 5, according to the station.
