Margaret (Meg) Orr Haines Boyd, 44, of Lakeville, died unexpectedly from natural causes on May 15, 2024. Meg was the loving wife of Brian and devoted mother of Bryson, age 8, and Jacob, age 5. Meg was a natural mother, an exceptional wife, and incredible super-auntie, daughter, sister, and friend; her amazing boys are the finest testaments to the wonderful person she was.
She grew up in East Bridgewater and was the daughter of Theodore “Ted” Haines and the late Jane Alexander Haines. A graduate of East Bridgewater High School, Class of 1998, she excelled in the classroom and on the soccer field, graduating as class Salutatorian. At the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Meg was a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated Magna Cum Laude, and made many lifelong friends.
After graduating, Meg worked for the New England Historical Genealogical Society in Boston, a perfect fit given the passion for family history instilled in her by her late grandmother Margaret Orr Alexander. She later worked for the Museum of Science in Boston, in their development department, a reflection of her joy for research, discovery, and her enthusiasm for nature and sustainable practices.
In 2010, while attending a St. Patrick’s Day party, Meg met Brian, the love of her life. They quickly found that they shared a passion for music, traveling, and being with friends and family, and married on October 18, 2014. In 2016 and 2019, Meg and Brian welcomed the births of their two boys, Bryson and Jacob, and Meg’s most cherished role as Mama began. Together, the family frequented Newfound Lake in New Hampshire, where they enjoyed a family cottage in the Camelot Acres neighborhood. Time spent at the lake was always precious to her.
Meg was intelligent, strong-willed, funny, caring, and fiercely loyal. She loved and was loved by her family, her friends, and her dog, Thurman. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Meg leaves behind her brother John Haines and his wife, Rachel; brother Samuel Haines and his wife, Annie; and sister Abigail Smith and her husband, Geoffrey. She will be remembered always by her nieces, Yvonne, Eliza, and Lydia; as well as her nephews, Benjamin, Maxwell, Jack, and Alexander. She is also survived by her stepmother Mary (Merrick) Haines; and her brother-in-law Brett Boyd, her mother-in-law Barbara Hull Kochon and Barbara’s husband Kent Kochon.
All are cordially invited to a visitation period on Wednesday, May 22, at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, from 4:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23, at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Bridgewater, 50 School Street, Bridgewater, at 11:00 am. Burial at Central Cemetery in East Bridgewater will be private.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Bryson and Jacob Boyd Educational Fund in memory of their mother Meg Boyd to support future educational expenses for both of her surviving children. Checks should be made payable to: RileyShay, LLC – (B&J Boyd Educational Fund) and should be mailed to Chase Bank, N.A., 215 Chauncy St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
In close, we share these touching words from Bryson and Jacob:
“We miss you Mama. I wish you didn’t pass away and I love you!” – Bryson Boyd
“We miss you Mama. I wish you could come back. I love you!” – Jacob (Jakey) Boyd
