Local obituary: John Leonard, 34, Hanover father of 3 and former BC, Cape Cod League baseball player

John Patrick Leonard, age 34, passed away on May 12, 2024. John grew up in Hanover where he was an amazing athlete. He graduated from Hanover High School in 2007 and then went on to continue his baseball career at Boston College where he graduated in 2011. John was passionate about baseball and played two wonderful summers in the Cape Cod Baseball League and was later drafted by the Giants and the Angels.

John then began his career in the insurance business, where he specialized in business development. John built incredible relationships with his clients and co-workers at Deland Gibson Insurance and that showed with their continued loyalty and love for him.

John became an avid golfer and member of the Wollaston Golf Club, and loved to compete with himself and his friends. He enjoyed playing with anyone and everyone. He just loved getting outside and playing on a course! In a short amount of time, he played all over the world.

John was the ultimate family man, always putting his family’s needs first. He was an amazing son, brother, husband, and his favorite role being a Father. He was the best Daddy to his children and he will be deeply missed by everyone.

John is survived by his wife Keryn and their three children Jane, Ian and Sunny of Hanover, his parents Paul and Cheryl Leonard of Hanover, his sister Molly Leonard and her partner Andrew Budwey of Quincy, his sister Amy Leonard and partner Andrew Martin of Halifax, his grandfather Paul Leonard of Milton and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and so many dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington St, Rte 53, Hanover on Sunday, May 19th, at 1:00-5:00PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Parish-St Mary’s Church, 392 Hanover St, Rte 139, Hanover on Monday, May 20th, at 11:00AM with a burial to follow at the Hanover Center Cemetery.
