Apparently, Mass. had a ‘gustnado’ touch down Monday night — and more wind is coming

Wind gusts could reach 65 mph overnight on Wednesday with tree damage and power outages expected.

It’s been a windy week in Boston and more wind is reportedly on its way.

On Monday, Massachusetts experienced a “gustnado,” which is a small, whirlwind that forms as an eddy during thunderstorm outflows, the National Weather Service and NBC10 Boston reported.

Wind speeds reached 28 mph and gust speeds hit 40 mph in Worcester on Monday and 18 and 23 mph, respectively, in Boston, according to the National Weather Service.

From Wednesday night into Thursday morning, all of Southern New England is under a high wind watch with westerly gusts expected to reach 55 to 65 mph, the National Weather Service announced.

The strongest and most damaging wind gusts are expected to impact most of Massachusetts between 11 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said. Wind speeds could reach 70 to 75 mph on the Cape near Provincetown.
