NOAA releases revised winter weather outlook for New England
The revised outlook predicts general temperatures and precipitation levels for December through February.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released a revised winter weather outlook for New England on Thursday.
The revised outlook predicts general temperatures and precipitation levels for December through February.
Per the outlook, temperatures will lean above-average in Southern New England — Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut — and there are equal chances for above or below average temperatures in Northern New England — New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
In terms of snowfall, all the New England states have equal chances of experiencing above or below normal precipitation levels.
As most of New England is currently experiencing a mild to severe drought, NOAA estimates that Southern New England will not endure a drought through the end of January whereas the drought will persist in Northern New England, including some of Western Massachusetts.
To make the predictions, NOAA analyzes the warmest or wettest, coldest or driest, and the in between conditions for each location from 1981 to 2010.
