Friday morning’s commute is expected to be ‘slick.’ Here’s what to know.
"A period of freezing rain/sleet [appears] to be a good bet across the high terrain" of Massachusetts early Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of Massachusetts away from the coast for the Friday morning commute with the possibility of freezing rain, sleet, and snow.Forecasters believe a “wintry mix” could fall upon the region between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. and especially impact the Worcester Hills and Berkshires. “Hazardous travel” may result due to snow and ice causing “slick” conditions.

While higher elevations are expected to see the worst of it, predictions indicate that places just northwest of the Boston-Providence corridor, plus northern Connecticut, could also see “a brief period of ice” affecting the Friday morning rush hour.

The Winter Weather Advisory includes areas just west and northwest of Boston, like Bedford and Lawrence, maps indicate.
Boston is expected to see less than .01 inches of ice accumulation, according to the service. Bedford, Lawrence, and Worcester could see .01 to .10 inches. All of these places are expected to receive less than an inch of snow. Areas south of Boston, like Taunton and Plymouth, plus Cape Cod, aren’t expected to see any ice accumulation or snow.
Forecasters say that by late morning, the ice and snow will change to rain. Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny in Boston with a high near 51, while Sunday should be sunny with a high near 32, according to the service’s seven-day forecast for the city.
