State police rescued a woman whose cell phone was losing signal after she got lost while hiking in Mount Washington, Mass., Sunday evening, authorities said.
A woman began hiking a trail shortly before 3 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., facing fading cell service, she texted her husband that she was lost, according to a statement from Massachusetts State Police.
Still, the woman was able to make a 911 call, police said.
The MSP Air Wing and MSP Special Emergency Response Team were dispatched to the scene, according to the police statement. From the air, they scanned the darkening area and were able to spot the woman as she held a flashlight.
The rescue team then navigated “rugged terrain,” police said, eventually reaching the woman nearly a mile and a half from the trailhead.
Police said the woman was “safely brought out.”
