A 40-year-old pickup truck was found in a Leicester pond Monday night after a fisherman’s sonar equipment detected the vehicle, fire officials said.
At 9:21 p.m., members of the Leicester Fire Department were dispatched to Rochdale Pond on Stafford Road after a report of a vehicle in the water, the Leicester Fire Department said in a press release.
The fisherman said the truck was submerged in 14 feet of water around 100 feet offshore, fire officials said.
Divers were sent to search underwater and quickly found a 1982 Volkswagon pickup truck, fire officials said.
Crews searched the area for any “possible victims” associated with the truck, but found none, the department wrote.
Fire officials suspect that the car was dumped in the pond “some time ago,” the department said.
“The Leicester Police Department will be investigating this further and coordinating the removal of the vehicle,” the fire department said.
