Police search for owner, dog after man and dog are attacked in Everett

Police say the owner of the attacking dog left the scene before first responders arrived.

Police are searching for a pet owner after their dog allegedly attacked another dog and its owner Tuesday in Everett, officials said.

Officials responded to 393 Ferry St. for a report of a dog bite involving both a person and another dog, according to a statement posted on Facebook by the Everett police

Everett police and fire personnel, with assistance from the Everett Animal Control Officer, took the injured dog to a vet, while the owner was transported to Mass General Hospital. Both are in good condition and expected to be okay, police said.

A commenter to the Facebook post identified himself as the dog’s owner. He wrote that the injured dog, named Mushroom, underwent surgery and is recovering.

“She is scared and just wants to go home,” he commented. “She’s in good care at the BluePearl veterinary hospital in Charlestown. Thank you very much for all of your thoughts.”

Mushroom needed 50 stitches, several surgeries, and “an artificial skin to hold her organs in,” WCVB reported.

Police said the owner of the attacking dog left the scene before first responders arrived. Authorities said they are continuing to investigate and are working to identify the individual and their dog.
