Plymouth police have released body camera footage showing a tense standoff between officers and an armed man who authorities say held his wife hostage inside a home.
The incident began Tuesday night when a woman called 911 reporting her estranged husband had broken into her home on Clark Road, according to the Plymouth Police Department.
The suspect then barricaded himself inside and held a large knife to the woman’s neck, police said.
The body camera footage shows an officer approaching the home as a man can be heard yelling from a balcony. The video then shows the man displaying the knife as an officer draws his weapon and orders him to drop the knife.
Four children were inside the house at the time, according to police. Officers were able to remove the children before continuing negotiations with the suspect.
The footage later shows the officer entering the first floor of the home, where the suspect is seen holding the woman at “knifepoint,” according to the officer’s description in the video.
“Drop the knife,” an officer can be heard saying in the video.
Responding officers negotiated with the suspect for 45 minutes before he finally agreed to surrender, according to police, who did not release the suspect’s name. He is facing more than a dozen criminal charges, Channel 7 reported.
