State Police arrested a Monterey man after a suspicious fire was set at his home early Wednesday morning, according to fire officials.
At about 3:50 a.m. on March 25, the Monterey Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 340 Main Road, the Department of Fire Services said in a press release John Rohane, 60, lives at that residence, officials said.
No injuries were reported, but fire officials said that the incident led State Police investigators to become suspicious. After examining the scene, interviewing witnesses, and collecting additional evidence, they determined that the fire had been intentionally set.
Monterey police and State Police investigators began looking for Rohane, searching the wooded area behind his home and areas of the nearby Beartown State Forest.
State Police later located him Wednesday evening and took him into custody, according to the Department of Fire Services.
Rohane was taken to a nearby hospital “for issues unrelated to the fire or his arrest,” officials said.
Details about the charges against Rohane and attorney information were not immediately available Wednesday night.
