A fundraiser has been launched to support the family of a Massachusetts teen who died after his car plunged from a Route 2 overpass and crashed onto a street below in Leominster.
Massachusetts State Police said troopers from the Leominster Barracks responded to a serious crash in which a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 2 went over an overpass and landed on Nashua Street.
Travis Teixeira, 18, of Ashburnham, later died due to the crash, police said.
Authorities have not released information about any other occupants who may have been in the vehicle or their conditions.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by a relative of Teixeira’s mother describes the loss as “unimaginable” for the family, according to the campaign description.
As of Monday, the fundraiser has raised more than $70,000.
According to the campaign, the funds will help cover funeral expenses and other financial burdens.
“As they navigate this incredibly difficult time, they are in need of support from their community to help them get through the days ahead,” the campaign description states.
The campaign also said it will help provide relief for family members taking time off work to grieve.
“Travis has always been such a great kid with a huge heart, a great athlete, an incredibly smart young man who got into every college he applied to,” the description reads. “He was filled with passion, justice and light. A light the world needed.”
