Police seek Mass. vehicle after driver involved in fatal Providence hit-and-run
Authorities are looking for a black Chevrolet Equinox with alloy wheels and a Massachusetts license plate.
Providence police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a Massachusetts-registered vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run early Saturday.
At 2:35 a.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck near Corliss Street, according to a statement from the Providence Police Department. The caller noted the pedestrian struck was not breathing.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old Kevin Chappie of Providence, was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
A preliminary investigation found that Chappie had been waiting for a rideshare and entered a crosswalk on Corliss Street when he was struck by a passing vehicle, police said.
The driver did not stop, and the vehicle has not yet been located. The incident remains under investigation, police said.
