Parts of Storrow Drive and Soldiers Field Road will be closed overnight Sunday as crews begin work related to maintenance of the Storrow Drive tunnel, transportation officials said.
The closure will run from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, according to a traffic advisory from the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The Storrow Drive tunnel and a stretch of Soldiers Field Road between North Harvard Street and Mugar Way will be shut down to allow crews to perform site work tied to the tunnel maintenance project, the department said.
During the closure, drivers will be detoured at Eliot Bridge. Traffic will be directed from North Harvard Street across Anderson Bridge to Memorial Drive in Cambridge, before returning to Boston via the Longfellow Bridge, according to the traffic advisory.
The City of Cambridge said in a statement that signage, police details, and message boards will be displayed to help guide drivers through the detour.
Cambridge officials advised drivers traveling through the area to slow down and use caution.
The work schedule is weather dependent and could change without notice, according to the City of Cambridge. Rain is currently expected overnight Sunday into Monday.
The overnight closure will take place after the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day parade, which starts at 11:30 a.m. at Andrew Square.
For those planning to use public transportation to attend the parade, the MBTA said the Red Line will operate a “rush hour service” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shuttle buses will also run between South Station and South Boston throughout the day.
