Hundreds of people charged into the chilly waters of Boston Harbor on Sunday afternoon as part of the annual Shamrock Splash.
Participants gathered at Constitution Beach, where dozens of “splashers” ran into the freezing water to raise money for the Better Beaches Grant Program. The program provides small grants to individuals and organizations that host free public events and activities each summer on Department of Conservation and Recreation beaches from Nahant to Nantasket.
The event is hosted each year by Save the Harbor/Save the Bay in partnership with JetBlue. Funds raised support the grant program, which helps bring free cultural, recreational, and community events to Boston Harbor beaches throughout the summer.
Last summer, the program supported nearly 200 events designed to bring a wide range of communities to the waterfront, including people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, Indigenous communities, multilingual residents, and low-income families.
