The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is launching a new lottery tied to Massachusetts’ 250th anniversary celebrations — giving drivers a chance to win a low-number version of the state’s blue MA250 commemorative license plate.
The specialty plate design features “1776” surrounded by 13 stars, with “250 Years of Independence” along the bottom. It’s part of Massachusetts’ broader push to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary and the state’s role in the Revolutionary era.
“Since last May, the RMV has offered the patriotic-themed higher number plates as part of the Massachusetts 250 festivities,” registrar Colleen Ogilvie said in a statement to The Boston Globe. “We are so excited to continue this celebration of American and state history by enabling all qualified Massachusetts residents a chance to win a coveted low number on the popular commemorative plate.”
Massachusetts residents with an active vehicle registration can apply through the RMV’s Online Service Center. There is no fee to enter the lottery, but winners will be responsible for the standard $60 registration fee and a $40 specialty plate fee.
