Two Brookline businesses have closed indefinitely after a fire broke out last week in one of the buildings and spread to the other.
The fire started at Painted Burro Brookline, a Mexican restaurant in Washington Square, the business announced in an Instagram post. No one was hurt, but the fire quickly spread through the building, and the restaurant will be closed “for the foreseeable future.”
“While this is a setback, it is not the end,” the business said in the post. “We are already looking ahead and can’t wait to re-open bigger and better than before.”
The fire spread next door to the wine store Vinodivino before the Brookline Fire Department could extinguish the flames, the business said on Instagram. The building was still without power days after the fire, and the repair timeline is “still uncertain,” but the business has other open branches in Kenmore, Beacon Hill, Newton, and Needham.
Brookline Fire Chief John Sullivan told Brookline.News that the blaze broke out in Painted Burro’s basement and caused only “moderate damage” to the buildings themselves. At this time, officials don’t believe that the fire was set intentionally.
“Our investigation unit is still working on determining the exact cause of the fire but at this time it doesn’t appear suspicious,” Sullivan said.
