A four-alarm fire tore through an Easton home Thursday night, killing one person, according to the state Department of Fire Services.
Firefighters were first dispatched to 44 North Main St. around 9:20 p.m. for a medical call, the department said. When crews arrived, they instead found a large single-family home engulfed in heavy flames.
Firefighters launched an interior search while attacking the blaze and discovered a person dead inside the home, officials said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
The fire spread rapidly through the one-and-a-half-story structure, triggering a regional response. Crews brought the blaze under control in about two hours but remained on scene into the early morning to knock down hotspots.
The Easton fire and police departments, State Police, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office are investigating what caused the fire.
