A man was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself early in the morning on New Year’s Day in Halifax.
First responders were dispatched just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Halifax Fire Department. They found a man with an accidental gunshot wound, who was treated at the scene and brought to a local trauma center.
The man was in critical but stable condition later on Thursday. Officials did not release any more details about the nature of his injury or where the incident occurred.
A fire engine was “temporarily sidelined” on the road as the man was brought to a hospital by an ambulance. Officials said this happened because of “staffing requirements.”
Off-duty personnel were called in to help retrieve the fire engine and ensure that the fire station was fully staffed while others attended to the accidental shooting.
