Two people were killed, and a third was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Barre, according to local authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m. on Hubbardston Road — Route 62 — near Cummings Road, Barre police said in a Facebook post.
Police and firefighters responding to the scene found three occupants inside the vehicle. One person was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, while the other two were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the collision, according to officials.
The identities of the victims have not been released, but police told WCVB that they were both 21 years old. The surviving occupant remains hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.
“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident,” Barre police said.
Local and state police are actively investigating the cause of the crash. Route 62 was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene. The road reopened just after noon.
