Donations are flooding in for one of the victims of the Brown University shooting, and Providence is showing up for the Ivy League community in more ways than one.
A verified GoFundMe for MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, who was fatally shot, has raised more than $370,000 of a $460,000 goal as of Monday evening.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” a family member wrote. “He always lent a helping hand to anyone in need without hesitation, and was the most kind-hearted person our family knew.”
In Providence, the Rhode Island Blood Center saw a 265 percent increase in donations on Sunday, the center said on social media, including 123 first-time donors.
In a now-closed Google form for resources and funding, the Brown University Undergraduate Council of Students referred additional donations to the Student Emergency Support Fund.
So far, GoFundMe’s official page to financially support relief efforts for the Brown University shooting only includes Umurzokov’s fundraiser.
