Want a piece of Matthews Arena? Northeastern is selling bricks and seats online.
A live auction for the "#1" brick runs through Dec. 16.
As Northeastern University gets ready to host its final game at Matthews Arena on Dec. 13, fans can purchase chairs and bricks from the century-old rink ahead of its demolition.
Commemorative bricks with plaques featuring the Mathews Arena Farewell logo are listed for $150, stadium seats for $600, and a seat with a commemorative base at $1,000. Each item comes with a certificate of authenticity, and will ship in February 2026. Shipping for the brick is free within the U.S.
There are 1,000 commemorative bricks available for purchase, according to the website. One brick labeled “#1” is currently being auctioned and had a bid of $575 at the time of publication. The website bills it as a “one-of-one collectible” that is “certain to retain its value as the first ceremonial brick removed from the iconic arena.” Bidding ends Dec. 16.

Northeastern purchased the arena, once home to the Celtics and Bruins, in 1979. The arena also hosted the early days of many collegiate Boston hockey programs and appearances from politicians and artists such as John F. Kennedy, Bob Dylan, and The Supremes. Originally known as Boston Arena, it was renamed Matthews Arena in 1982 following alumnus George Matthews’ support for renovations.

This isn’t the first time Northeastern has sold memorabilia. In 2021, the university sold commemorative, personalized seats and bricks of Friedman Diamond for $200 to $500, and personalized plaques of the pavilion seatback’s were available for $1,000.
