Worker uses bucket truck to rescue woman from Somerville fire

An Eversource employee used a bucket truck to save a woman from three-alarm fire in Somerville on Monday.

The Somerville Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at 47 Marion St., a six-unit row house, near Lincoln Park, according to a statement from the City of Somerville.

Prior to the fire department’s arrival, an Eversource employee used his bucket truck to rescue a woman after she climbed out of a front window onto a small porch roof, city officials told Boston.com via email.

The woman was transported to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, officials said. No other injuries were reported.

The severity of the fire and the potential for it to spread to adjacent buildings lead to a third alarm being requested. Somerville firefighters received assistance from Cambridge, Medford, Everett, and Boston emergency personnel, officials said.

Unit 47 of the building is considered a total loss and all other units sustained water and smoke damage as well as the opening of walls and ceilings, according to officials.

Multiple residents were displaced, although the total number was not released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
