When do Boston’s holiday and Christmas lights go up this year?

Where and when to see Boston’s holiday lights this year, from waterfront trellises to neighborhood tree lightings.

Holiday season is upon us, and Boston is already lighting up trees, trellises, and streets across the city. While the Christopher Columbus Park trellis kicked things off earlier this week, plenty of other events featuring live music, food, and festive lighting ceremonies are still ahead. Below, find a full list of Boston’s holiday light displays and event details.

Christopher Columbus Park

Where: 110 Atlantic Ave., Downtown Boston

When: Lighting event took place on Nov. 24

The waterfront park’s 260-foot-long trellis is now illuminated with 50,000 blue lights, along with decorated trees spread throughout the park.

The Ship at Martin’s Park

Where: 64 Sleeper St., Seaport

When: Nov. 29, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The playground, named for 8-year-old Boston Marathon bombing victim Martin Richard, will light up its wooden playship with more than 7,600 feet of white and blue LED lights. The celebration includes visits from Santa and the Grinch, a Boston Fire Department fire truck, and performances from the Berklee School of Music, holiday beverages, and crafts.

Copley Square Tree Lighting

Where: 560 Boylston St., Back Bay

When: Dec. 1, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The newly reopened Copley Square hosts a festive lighting event featuring Rudolph and Santa Claus, live music from vocalist Joelle James, performances by the Boston Children’s Chorus and Symphonic of Emerson College, and light refreshments.

Boston Common Tree Lighting

Where: 139 Tremont St., Downtown Boston

When: Dec. 4, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (tree lights at 7:55 p.m.)

To celebrate the 54th annual tree donated from Nova Scotia, honoring 108 years of friendship between Nova Scotia and Boston. The two-hour celebration includes live entertainment, with the official tree lighting at 7:55 p.m. The event will also air on WCVB Channel 5 starting at 7 p.m.

Commonwealth Avenue Mall Lighting

Where: 15 Commonwealth Ave., Back Bay (approximate)

When: Dec. 4, 8:15 p.m. 

Immediately following the Boston Common ceremony, the lights along Commonwealth Avenue Mall — from Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue — will be switched on, courtesy of Friends of the Public Garden.

Light Up Seaport

Where: Seaport Common

When: Dec. 5, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (tree lights at 7:20 p.m.)

Boston’s largest holiday tree — at 52 feet tall — will be lit with more than 10,000 twinkling lights. The evening will include an appearance from Betty the Yeti, live holiday music, and donation stations. The lighting will be broadcast on WBZ-TV at 7 p.m.
