Cambridge police are investigating after tacks were found spread across a bike lane on Nov. 13.
A bicyclist found 20 tacks in their bike tire while biking between Porter and Inman squares last Thursday, the cyclist posted on Reddit.
Through comments on the initial post, the bicyclist discovered the tacks were in the bike lane on Hampshire Street between Prospect and Tremont streets from other impacted cyclists, according to a second Reddit post.
“It just seems like an act of short-sighted anger when they’re not looking at the full picture,” Aaron Levine, one of the impacted cyclists, told WHDH. “If these cyclists or the bike lanes or whatever are getting you mad, you can be mad about it. But you can’t put people who would actually get hurt in danger by doing something like this.”
Cambridge police are aware of the situation and the online conversations regarding the tacks, the department said in a statement.
Anyone who believes they were a victim of this incident should file an incident report at the Cambridge police station or call 617-349-3300. With that information, Cambridge police may be able to narrow down the location and timeframe of the incident and potentially prevent future instances, they said.
