Wrong-way driver killed in Somerset crash

The drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash sustained injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

A Tiverton, Rhode Island, woman was killed in a wrong-way crash in Somerset on Thursday.

Massachusetts State Police received several reports of a driver traveling westbound on I-195 East on Thursday evening, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. A three-vehicle crash then occurred on the highway in Somerset.

The two other vehicles involved in the crash were traveling in the right direction, and the single occupant in each of those cars was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, the DA’s office said.

The vehicle traveling the wrong direction was a white Toyota sedan driven by Gail Lopes, 69, of Tiverton, officials said. Lopes was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
