Two teens were killed in a crash in New Bedford early Saturday.
Massachusetts State Police responded to a single-car crash on Route 140 South around 2 a.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, troopers observed a gray 2019 Honda Civic off the roadway in a nearby wooded area with significant damage to its passenger side, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle, officials said. One of those ejected was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified as Gabriel Bertolino Siqueira, 17, of West Yarmouth, a senior at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
The second ejected occupant was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. That victim was identified as Anne Urbanski Santos De Carvalho, 15, of Dartmouth.
The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man from Dartmouth, was also transported to a local hospital, with injuries believed to be not life-threatening, authorities said. The driver’s current condition is unknown at this time.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School Principal Kendra Bennett wrote on the school’s Facebook, “Gabriel was not just a senior in our school, but a cherished member of our community and an inspiring varsity soccer player. His presence touched the lives of many.”
“Gabriel was more than just a player — he was a source of energy, passion, and inspiration to everyone around him,” the Dennis-Yarmouth boys’ soccer team wrote on Instagram. “His spirit, dedication, and smile will forever remain in our hearts.”
A minister of the Christian Congregation in Yarmouth, which Siqueira’s parents are members of, created a GoFundMe page for funeral expenses. In two days, the GoFundMe received nearly $26,000 in donations, surpassing its $20,000 goal before donations were paused.
“Gabriel was a very loved young man … He touched people with the sweetness of his presence and the way he treated everyone around him,” the fundraising page says.
No further information on Anne Urbanski Santos De Carvalho was available at the time of publication.
