A Brockton man was injured Saturday morning when the box truck he was driving veered off Interstate 93 in New Hampshire and “launched” into a cluster of trees, according to officials.
New Hampshire State Police said 21-year-old Anilton Resende Barros suffered minor injuries in the crash, which happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. near Exit 23 in New Hampton.
Troopers responded to the scene and found a 2012 yellow Hino 258/268 up in the trees in the highway median, State Police said in a statement. According to police, a preliminary investigation determined Resende Barros was heading northbound “when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.”
“The box truck went straight into the median, traveling over the crossover between the north and southbound lanes, struck an embankment, and launched into a group of trees before coming to a final stop in the woods separating the opposing lanes,” State Police added.
Resende Barros was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The left lanes of I-93 north and south were closed at Exit 23 for about four hours while crews cleaned up the crash, State Police said. All lanes reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation, and State Police encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact Trooper John Zavala at [email protected].
