“There are hundreds of grocery store chains across the United States, but some of them are more beloved than others — and loyal customers will return to their favorites over and over again,” USA Today wrote last week.

To curate the list, an expert panel nominated chains and readers voted for the best ones in terms of value, selection, and service, according to USA Today.

The Fresh Market ranked as the best grocery chain with the best grocery store bakery, deli, prepared foods, and produce sections. The chain has 166 locations across 22 states mainly on the East Coast, including three locations in Massachusetts.

Fifth on the list was Stew Leonard’s, which has two locations in Connecticut. The chain is known as the world’s largest dairy store and ranked third best for grocery store bakery and deli.

ALDI ranked seventh as both the best grocery chain and best for produce. With dozens of stores across three New England states, its USA Today ranking reaffirms the store’s “Twice as Nice” guarantee.

Ranking 10th both as a store and for its produce was Wegmans, which has five locations in eastern Massachusetts. Wegmans also ranked sixth for its deli and ninth for its bakery and prepared foods.
