The body of a Waltham man was found off the coast of Maine Sunday, according to local authorities.
Mark Metzger, 74, was reported missing at around 11:40 a.m. Friends grew concerned after not being able to find him aboard his 19-foot sailboat, according to the Maine Department of Marine Resources. The boat was anchored on the western side of Bremen Long Island, a small island near Midcoast Maine.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Marine Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, Maine Forest Service, and other local emergency responders began searching for Metzger.
At about 1:30 p.m., good Samaritans found Metzger’s body near Long Island Ledges, a small island just west of Bremen Long Island, officials said.
His body was released to a local funeral home and will be examined by the state’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner. No further information about Metzger’s death has been released.
