A 23-year-old off-duty firefighter died in a motorcycle crash on Sunday night in Berlin, according to the Berlin Police Department.
Jack Bonazzoli, of Clinton, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a home while traveling west on West Street at its intersection with Randall Road around 9:30 p.m., police said.
Despite efforts by emergency personnel, Bonazzoli died at the scene, according to police. No one else was injured.
Bonazzoli was a recent recruit at the Sterling Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT. He was set to attend the Massachusetts Fire Academy next month, according to the fire department.
“Jack’s enthusiasm, dedication, and bright personality made an instant positive impact on our department. He always had everyone around him laughing,” the fire department wrote on Facebook. “Jack had a passion for emergency service and for physical fitness, and pushed his fellow department members to better themselves each and every shift.
“Jack is already dearly missed by his department members. We keep those who love him in our thoughts during this difficult time.”
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
