An East Bridgewater man pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to taking inappropriate photos of a child while working as a camp counselor, prosecutors announced.
Bradley Collins, 20, allegedly took inappropriate photos of a child on Aug. 11 at the Plymouth Boys & Girls Club, where he worked, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz.
Collins is charged with indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, photographing sexual or intimate parts of a child, and child in nude, lascivious pose/exhibit, according to court filings.
Collins’ attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.
Plymouth police were notified Aug. 12 of an incident that occurred the day before at the Plymouth Boys & Girls Club’s summer camp, Cruz said.
Investigators found that Collins had “inappropriately photographed” a young child while they were at the summer camp, and told the child not to tell anyone, according to the DA.
Collins allegedly changed his version of events multiple times while speaking to Plymouth police. He initially denied taking photos during the incident, then later said he did take photos, the DA said.
The Plymouth Boys and Girls Club terminated Collins’ employment and permanently barred him from all programming and facilities, Executive Director Garreth Lynch said in a statement.
“Any behavior that jeopardizes a child’s safety is a direct contradiction of our mission and core values. We will continue to offer our full cooperation to the authorities as needed,” Lynch said.
In a letter sent to families, Lynch said this incident was a first in his 20 years at the Club.
Lynch said Collins’ actions also violated the Club’s “Rule of Three,” rule, which states that two counselors must accompany a child or or two children must accompany a counselor, to avoid one-on-one contact.
“I hope you will trust me and our veteran staff to keep children safe as we have done for 20 years,” the letter concluded.
Collins was released on $15,000 cash bail and ordered to stay away from the alleged victim, other underage children, and the Plymouth Boys & Girls Club. He was also placed on GPS monitoring with a curfew from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., according to the DA.
He is scheduled to return to court Oct. 2 for a probable cause hearing, according to the DA.
