Driver, 29, dead in overnight Seekonk crash

Police said the driver struck several trees and crashed in a wooded median of I-195 "at a high rate of speed."

A 29-year-old man fatally crashed in the early hours Friday on I-195 west in Seekonk, authorities said.

Seekonk police and EMS, as well as State Police, responded to a 911 call reporting a single-vehicle crash on the highway at 1:21 a.m., according to a release from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Police said the driver, Joseph Gagliardi of Seekonk, struck several trees and crashed in a wooded median of the highway “at a high rate of speed.”

First responders located Gagliardi, the sole occupant of the vehicle, “in the grass median with significant injuries. ” EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
