A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with two armed robberies perpetrated at gas stations in Randolph in the last week.
Alain McDonald of Randolph was charged with two counts of armed and masked robbery with a firearm, Randolph police said in a statement. He is also a suspect in an armed robbery in Quincy.
“The Randolph Police Department would like to thank the Quincy Police Department and the FBI Violent Crime Task Force for their assistance during this investigation,” Randolph Police Chief Marag said in a statement. “The professionalism of our officers, the hard work of our detectives and their teamwork with our fellow law enforcement agencies resulted in a dangerous criminal being taken off the streets.”
Randolph police responded to the AI Prime gas station at 304 Union St. for a report of an armed robbery on Saturday around 8:15 p.m., the department said. The suspect, later identified as McDonald, was reported to have been wearing a black mask and was carrying a semiautomatic handgun. He fled on foot, according to police.
A second robbery was reported Tuesday at Prestige gas station at 1201 N. Main St. around 1:21 p.m., with the suspect again reported to be armed with a semiautomatic handgun and wearing a black mask, allegedly fleeing the area in a gray Hyundai Elantra.
When searching for the man on Tuesday, two police cruisers collided at the intersection of Mitchell and Royal streets, police said. Two officers were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Prestige, a statewide chain of gas stations and car washes, told Boston.com about $400 was stolen during the Tuesday robbery.
Randolph police said the department later learned that the West Squantum Market and Liquor Store at 205 W. Squantum St. in Quincy was robbed at gunpoint at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday by a suspect who left the area in a gray Hyundai Elantra.
McDonald was identified as the suspect in all three robberies, and on Wednesday, police found the 32-year-old driving a Hyundai matching the description of the vehicle used in the armed robberies. He was stopped and arrested.
“Following the execution of a search warrant, Randolph Police Detectives seized a loaded black Glock 9mm handgun, a large sum of cash, and a baseball cap with a gold sticker, matching the one worn by the suspect in each of the Randolph robberies,” police said.
McDonald was arraigned Wednesday in Quincy District Court on charges related to the Randolph robberies; police said he will face additional charges from Quincy police for the third incident. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Attorney information for McDonald was not immediately available.
