A 56-year-old woman is facing multiple charges in connection with a Monday crash that left an 81-year-old Lowell woman dead, The Lowell Sun reports.
Angela Lourm is charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol while causing serious bodily injury, according to court records. She was arraigned Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the Sun, prosecutors allege Lourm struck 81-year-old Madorin Huot with her car around 11:30 a.m. on Monday in the parking lot of the apartment building at 45 Walker St. where both women lived. Lourm allegedly pulled into her parking spot and then reversed, striking Huot, who prosecutors said was in a small garden area that wraps around part of the building.
Huot was later pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, according to the Sun. Responding officers allegedly detected a strong smell of alcohol from Lourm at the scene and she reportedly told them she had been drinking wine that day. She refused field sobriety tests and was arrested, according to the Sun.
According to court records, Lourm was transferred to MCI Framingham when she did not immediately post the bail set at $1,000.
Lourm is set to return to court on Oct. 16.
