The Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing boater off the coast of Salisbury on Monday night.
The 22-hour search for the man, estimated to be in his 50s, began on Saturday after the 47-foot boat he was on capsized around 4 p.m. off the Merrimack River in Newburyport.
“We express our deepest condolences for the family and loved ones,” Petty Officer Keira Shantry wrote in an email.
The boat owner was rescued from the water and transported to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The two boaters, who had left Salisbury Marina, were wearing life jackets and had communicated with the Coast Guard before the connection was lost and the boat overturned.
There were rough conditions and high surf due to Hurricane Erin when the boat capsized, according to The Boston Globe, and nearby Salisbury Beach was closed due to rip currents.
