A Marlborough dentist was arraigned Wednesday on charges that he placed a secret camera, secured with dental wax and medical tape, inside the staff bathroom of the dental practice where he worked, authorities announced.
Patrick Tu Huynh, 35, of Marlborough was arraigned on seven counts of photographing a person in a state of nudity without consent, two counts of unlawful wiretap, and destruction of property, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office said in a press release.
A dental assistant at New England Dental Group found a camera taped to the toilet of the staff bathroom in May, the DA’s office said. The dental assistant allegedly reported finding the camera to Huynh. The dentist allegedly removed the camera and told the staff member that he would try to identify the person responsible.
The same dental assistant contacted Marlborough police in August when they found an identical camera inside the same bathroom, attached inside the same toilet with dental wax and medical tape.
“The subsequent investigation revealed that [Huynh] had allegedly placed the camera inside the toilet to capture audio and video recordings of those using the bathroom,” the DA’s office said in a statement. “Footage on the camera included multiple videos of victims as well as images of [Huynh] appearing to adjust and clean the camera lens while it was in the bathroom.”
On Wednesday, Huynh’s profile on the New England Dental Group’s website appeared to have been deleted, and he is no longer listed as a doctor with the group. The practice did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Huynh pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday, and his bail was set at $10,000. He was ordered to surrender his passport and to stay away from the dental practice and have no contact with the victims.
Huynh’s attorney did not immediately return a request for comment. The 35-year-old is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 25.
