A former New Hampshire police officer is facing new accusations of allegedly receiving child pornography, according to federal prosecutors, while on bail for similar charges filed earlier this year.
John Giarrusso, a former Seabrook police officer, was arrested Thursday and charged federally with one count of receipt of child pornography, U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Leah Foley announced.
Giarrusso, of Haverhill, was indicted on possession of child pornography and distribution of graphic sexual images to a minor in Essex Superior Court in June. He pleaded not guilty to all state charges and was released on bail in July, according to court records.
Seabrook police initially put Giarrusso, 49, on paid administrative leave after he was arrested by Haverhill police in March, the department said at the time. When contacted, a dispatcher confirmed Thursday that Giarrusso no longer works for the department but declined to comment further.
Between Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 in 2024, federal prosecutors say, Giarrusso allegedly received videos of child sexual abuse on the platform Kik. The victim appeared to be between 5 and 11 years old, prosecutors said.
The federal charges carries a sentence of at least five years and up to 20, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine, according to Foley’s office.
Pamela Rogers, Giarrusso’s lawyer, declined to comment on either case to Boston.com.
