Virginia man’s body found in apparent Lake Winnipesaukee drowning

A Virginia man’s body was recovered from Lake Winnipesaukee on Tuesday morning following an apparent accidental drowning the night prior, according to New Hampshire State Police.

At 8:19 p.m. Monday, State Police received a report of a missing person, who was believed to have been swimming in Lake Winnipesaukee near Long Island in Moultonborough. The person was later identified as Forrest Wells, 76, of Virginia.

Officials conducted an extensive search of the area and recovered the body of a man believed to be Wells at the shoreline at 7:23 a.m. on Tuesday, according to police.

The investigation remains open, but his death does not appear to be suspicious at this time, police said.
