A 16-year-old was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after they became pinned by a sweeper bar at a Connecticut bowling alley and lost consciousness, police said.
Police responded around 4:20 p.m. to the report of a teenage employee trapped in a bowling lane at Spare Time bowling alley in Windsor Locks, the Windsor Locks Police Department said. They found the 16-year-old unresponsive at the scene.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the teen was attempting to clear the lane when the sweeper bar came down, pinning the teen. The weight and pressure of the sweeper bar restricted the 16-year-old’s breathing to the point where the teen lost consciousness, police said.
“Other employees raised the bar manually to free the 16-year-old who remained unresponsive with only a faint pulse and shallow breathing,” the department said.
The teen was taken to Hartford Hospital where they are recovering, police said.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was contacted related to the incident and is responding, according to police.
