The FBI joined Nantucket Police in investigating four false bomb threats, over three nights, on the island last week, according to police reports.
All four false bomb threats claimed there was an improvised explosive device at 16 Main St., where a Ralph Lauren store is located.
Following each report, Nantucket Police and the Massachusetts Bomb Squad established a perimeter and searched the area to find no explosive device or indication thereof, according to police.
Around 7:11 p.m. on Tuesday, Nantucket Police received the first bomb threat, a report of an IED in a black sports utility SUV.
At 7:21 p.m. on Friday, police received a second bomb threat, this one for an IED in a box. Police also received calls claiming he person who reported the threat was armed with a gun. After establishing another perimeter and searching the area, Nantucket Police and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad determined there was no device.
At 11:13 p.m. on Friday, officials received another call reporting a bomb at the Ralph Lauren building. The Ralph Lauren store was previously shut down due to a false bomb report in March 2024, according to the Nantucket Current.
On Saturday, an individual reported to officials they “intended to place an improvised explosive device (IED) at 16 Main Street,” according to a press release obtained by the Boston Herald. The Massachusetts Bomb Squad was already on the island for a Boston Pops event and cleared the area an hour after the report, according to the Current.
The investigation into the false bomb reports remains open by the Nantucket Police Detective Unit, Massachusetts State Police, and the FBI.
