Body washes up on R.I. beach after being spotted by swimmer, police say

Police responded to Heads Beach off Seaside Drive around 7:36 a.m. after a swimmer noticed the body and asked a person onshore to alert police, the post said. 

A body washed ashore a Rhode Island beach early Sunday morning, police said.

Jamestown police responded to Heads Beach off Seaside Drive around 7:36 a.m. after a swimmer noticed the body and asked a person onshore to alert authorities, the Jamestown Police Department said in a Facebook post

The Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body, according to police.

Rhode Island State Police, the Department of Environmental Management, and the United States Coast Guard were notified of the incident, the release said.

There is no additional information available, police said. 

The incident is currently under a multiagency investigation, headed by the Rhode Island State Police.
