Two women have been charged for allegedly running a brothel out of a Massachusetts spa, according to Maynard Police.
Jianping Wu, 68 of Malden, and Meiying Cheng, 57 of Flushing, N.Y., were charged on Tuesday with deriving support from prostitution, inducing prostitution on premises, keeping a house of prostitution, and engaging in sexual conduct for a fee, according to police.
“Our department heard from community members who had concerns about the activity that was occurring at this business, and we heard those concerns and investigated,” said Police Chief Christopher Troiano in a statement on the arrests.
Following a weekslong investigation, Wu and Cheng were arrested after a search warrant was served for Asian Spa at 107 Main St. in Maynard.
During the search, police seized cell phones, cash, checks, account information, ledgers, and other items consistent with organized prostitution, according to the police.
“The Maynard community that we are a part of will not tolerate this type of activity,” Troiano continued.
Wu and Cheng were set to be arraigned in Concord District Court on Wednesday.
