Newburyport police officer injured in crash during traffic stop, department says

The officer, driving a motorcycle with lights and sirens on, was attempting to stop a vehicle on the turnpike when the crash occurred, the department said in a press release. 

A Newburyport police officer was injured in a crash between a police motorcycle and a vehicle Monday morning, police said.

The Newburyport police and fire departments, as well as EMTs, responded to the area of 6 Plum Island Turnpike around 11 a.m., police said.

The officer was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries and brought to a nearby hospital, officials said. 

The crash is under investigation by the Newburyport Police Department.
