Man sentenced to 33 years to life for 2022 murder of N.H. woman

Brandon Mitchell was sentenced 33 years to life in prison for the murder of Esme Doucette, 23, in November 2022.

A New Hampshire man was sentenced to 33 years to life in the New Hampshire State Prison for the second degree murder of Esmae Doucette in 2022, Attorney General John M. Formella announced Friday.

Mitchell, 23, was sentenced to a minimum term of 33 years and a maximum term of life imprisonment, according to a press release.

He is eligible to petition to suspend 4 years of the minimum sentence if he does not have serious misconduct violations during his first five incarcerated years, the AG said.

Doucette, 23, was shot in the head Nov. 30, 2022, at Dana Place Apartments in Jackson, N.H., and succumbed to her injuries two days later.

She was described by her family as “radiant,” with an “enthusiastic zest for life.”

Mitchell, also from Jackson, was arrested Dec. 4, 2022 and charged with one count of reckless second-degree murder and one count of falsifying physical evidence.

He pleaded guilty June 11 to reckless second-degree murder as a part of a plea agreement where his charge of falsifying physical evidence and of knowing second degree murder would be dismissed.
