A 6-week-old kitten, now safe in foster care, was recently rescued from a storm drain close to an on-ramp to I-95 in Canton.
On July 19, the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Field Services Department responded to a report of a kitten, alone and noticeably small in size, wandering on Neponset Street, according to a press release.
Agents searched the wooded area and soon heard the kitten crying from inside a storm drain. Rescuers then located the exit pipe, set up a humane trap, and played kitten sounds to encourage the kitten to come out of hiding.
He soon appeared, immediately moving toward the food in the trap, as rescuers stepped in to help.
“The kitten, now named Pigeon, was very thin, weighing just over a pound, and was extremely dirty, but was otherwise healthy,” the release from ARL noted.
Pigeon will stay in foster care for several weeks, so he can gain some healthy weight and, eventually, get neutered. He will be available for adoption after that, ARL said.
ARL reminds anyone who spots a domestic animal in distress or danger to contact the Field Services Department at 617-426-9170 x563.
