A 41-year-old Maine man died over the weekend after, authorities say, he was struck by a projectile during a fireworks display.
Maine State Police said Joseph Hennessey of South Paris, Maine, collapsed at a gathering during a private fireworks display on Saturday night in Roxbury, Maine. First responders were called to the residence around 9:24 p.m., and Hennessey was pronounced dead after being transported from the scene by medical personnel.
An autopsy determined the 41-year-old was struck and killed by a projectile that was discharged from a “mini cannon” during the fireworks display, police said.
State police said the incident remains under investigation by the department’s major crimes unit.
