A man was arrested after a Newmarket woman was found shot to death late Monday night, officials said Tuesday.
Kylie Fritz, 38, was discovered dead in her home on Maple Street just before midnight on Monday, according to a press release.
Fritz appeared to have suffered from a gunshot wound, Attorney General John M. Formella said in a statement.
Newmarket Police were called to Fritz’s home around 11:57 p.m. for a welfare check and found her lying deceased on the ground.
Stephen Field, 39, was arrested after a car crash that same day in another New Hampshire town.
Exeter police responded to North Hampton Road around 11:37 p.m. Monday night for a single-car crash, the department said in a Facebook post. The vehicle was “abandoned” when officers arrived, police said.
An officer and a K9 located Field near an overpass, and Field was arrested.
“Statements made by Field prompted Exeter Officers to contact the Newmarket Police and request a welfare check at a residence in their town,” police said.
Field’s charges include a second DUI and alcohol ignition interlock device circumvention, Exter police said.
An arrest warrant was announced on Tuesday for Field charging him with second degree murder for Fritz’s death, officials said.
Field is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning for Fritz’s murder and August 7 for the charges from the Exeter incident.
Fritz’s autopsy is also scheduled for Wednesday, officials said.
